Aaron's dad with an important update

I'm not sure why Aaron hasn't posted any information about this, but I'm going to let everyone know about a major event for him. He decided that what Boulder really needed was a Junior Flatiron Chef competition, and put together the competition all on his own. Better yet, he got one of the best restaurants in Boulder, Q's at the Hotel Boulderado, to agree to host the event, which will take place on Sunday night, May 22nd!

The restaurant is providing their back kitchen for preparation, serving staff, all the ingredients, and even paired wines for the occasion! Executive Chef John Platt will be overseeing things backstage, and each of the two young chefs will have three hours to execute a four-course meal, along with his two sous-chefs, who are also middle schoolers. Each chef will cook for 20 customers, as well as the judges, who include renowned chef Erik Skokan (owner of the Black Cat restaurant), Dan Hayward, owner of Savory Spice Shop, and hopefully, Hosea Rosenberg, winner of Top Chef (Aaron got an OK from Hosea early in the game, but he has been difficult to contact as of late).

The Boulder Daily Camera is doing a feature story on the event, and a photographer is coming to the house tonight to take some pictures of Aaron working in the kitchen. There are still a few spots left for diners, and get this, the price is only $25 per person for an elaborate four-course meal, or $35 with paired wines! Call the Boulderado at 303-442-4880 to make reservations.

One final note: The only thing that isn't completely set are prizes for the winning team. We are trying to make it something exceptional, so chefs who follow this blog, if you would like to contribute books, dining gift certificates or internships at your restaurants, they would be GREATLY appreciated. You can contact me at jankir@aol.com if you are interested in helping out. Both Aaron and his opponent, Austin Forest, are very committed, dedicated young chefs, who are going to be part of a huge wave of talent that you all have helped inspire.
